Understanding Stitch Count
What determines my embroidery stitch count?
A stitch count determines the amount of thread and time needed to complete an embroidery design. All our embroidered styles include designs up to 8,000 stitches, which cover about 85% of the designs we work with. But sometimes, just by glancing at a design, we can tell that the stitch count will be high. Other times, we won't know until we build out the mechanical file.
What Contributes to a High Stitch Count
- Lots of Lettering: The more text, the higher the stitch count.
- Large Areas of Solid Fill: Designs with large, solid areas require more stitches.
What Doesn't Impact Stitch Count
- Number of Thread Colors: Unlike screen printing, where multiple colors can complicate the process, the number of thread colors in embroidery does not impact the stitch count.
Calculating Stitch Count on Your Own
If you’re keen to calculate the stitch count yourself, you can use the following formula:
*Stitch Count = Length x Width x Height*
However, remember that this is a simplified approach and might not be entirely accurate for complex designs.
